Japanese power hitter Kazuma Okamoto, who moved to the Toronto Blue Jays this year, has achieved a six-game hitting streak in the new season. He stated casually, "Just being able to contribute more to the team is fine," and shared that he keeps a relaxed, non-stressed attitude.
The 29-year-old Kazuma Okamoto has recorded hits in six consecutive games starting from the opening day, with a cumulative batting average of 0.292, hitting two home runs and contributing three RBIs, while also drawing three walks but striking out 11 times.
According to Kyodo News, Okamoto has had an excellent start in his rookie season in Major League Baseball. He remarked lightly, "Just being able to further contribute to the team is sufficient."
When asked what advice he would give to players entering a new environment this spring as well, he emphasized the importance of not forcing oneself. "What you can't do, you can't do. Recognize the current situation and don't push yourself to produce results beyond your current capabilities." He himself approaches games with a non-stressed mindset of "doing what I can."
Kazuma Okamoto joined the Yomiuri Giants in Nippon Professional Baseball in 2015, playing for 11 years, accumulating a batting average of 0.277 with 248 home runs and 717 RBIs. During this period, he won the Central League home run title three times and was twice honored as the Central League RBI leader.
The Blue Jays were last year's American League champions but lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a seven-game World Series battle. The team actively strengthened during the offseason, signing Kazuma Okamoto with a four-year, $60 million contract.
