Jo Adell's three home run robberies in one game lead Angels to home opener victory.

Today began with Los Angeles Angels right fielder Jo Adell making a spectacular leaping catch — he robbed a sure home run from Cal Raleigh in the first inning. In the eighth inning, Adell again used nearly the same motion to steal a potential tying home run from Josh Naylor. In the ninth, he surpassed himself, leaping into the stands in the right-field corner to rob a potential equalizing blast from J.P. Crawford, with the call upheld after replay review.

These three home run robberies thrilled the packed crowd at Angel Stadium, and the team ultimately won 1-0. Although this power hitter hasn't produced long hits early in the season, his defensive performance against the Mariners perfectly compensated for that.

When the ball left the bat, it looked like Raleigh would finally break his season-opening home run drought. But Adell had other plans, leaping at the right-field wall to snatch that home run. This set the defensive tone for the team's first home win of the season. Left fielder Josh Lowe made a sliding catch to rob Dominic Canzone's hit in the fourth inning; second baseman Oswald Peraza started the fifth inning with a diving stop and completed a throw to prevent Luke Raley's hit.

The Angels could have fallen behind early; Raleigh caught a slider from right-hander Jack Kochanowicz, with the ball leaving the bat at an initial speed of 104.7 mph and a launch angle of 28 degrees. This would have been a home run in 20 other ballparks (including Seattle's T-Mobile Park), but here it was just a deep fly out. Kochanowicz safely completed the first inning without allowing a run.

Raleigh blasted an astonishing 60 home runs in the 2025 season, finishing second only to Aaron Judge in AL MVP voting. But in the 2026 season, he is still searching for his first home run. After having no home runs against the Angels yesterday and today, his season-opening streak of nine games without a home run has surpassed any embarrassing stretch from last season. Right-handed reliever Chase Silseth also forced Raleigh to ground out in a critical moment with two outs and two runners on base in the seventh inning.

In the eighth inning, reliever Sam Bachman allowed Naylor to hit a slider, resulting in a deep fly ball to right field, but Adell perfectly timed his move. This ball wasn't as powerful as Raleigh's, with an exit velocity of 98 mph, and it would have been a home run in 10 other stadiums.

In the final inning, Crawford hit a slider from closer Jordan Romano, sending it down the right-field line, but Adell firmly caught the ball despite eventually falling into the stands, securing the first out.
