Imonaga hit just six hits in the first five innings at PNC Park, and was checked by the training team after being hit by Andrew McCutchen on second base in the sixth inning, before exiting the game with a 4-0 lead. The Pirates returned home with a full base, and Ionaga ended up sending three strikeouts and one guarantee with 87 balls, and the ERA dropped to 2.77.
On the offensive end, catcher Carson Kelly and fieldfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong each contributed two shots. The Cubs added five more points to seal the win in the seventh to ninth innings, and Seiya Suzuki hit three hits in four to complete the complete hit with only one home run.
