Coach Diego Giustozzi has finalized the selection of 14 Vietnamese futsal players for the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, making a significant choice to keep the seasoned goalkeeper Ho Van Yi and drop the young talent Tran Van Luong.
The decision was made during the training session on April 1st. Tran Van Luong (born 2003), goalkeeper of Sai Gon Titans, is the player who had to bid farewell. Despite being called up to the national team since 2025 and having potential for growth, he could not compete for the position following Van Yi's return.
During the training camp, Ho Van Yi demonstrated consistent form and extensive experience through both practice sessions and friendly matches. This enabled him and Pham Van Tu to become two reliable pillars in the team's goal.

Ho Van Yi's experience is a highly valuable asset for Vietnam futsal at this moment
This current roster for Vietnam futsal still relies on a core of experienced players who have competed in many international tournaments. Additionally, some young talents have been given opportunities, notably Nguyen Thac Hieu – a newly summoned player who quickly impressed the coaching staff to earn a spot in the final list.
In the group stage of the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, Vietnam will face Myanmar (April 6), Timor-Leste (April 7), and host Thailand (April 8). With a squad blending experience and youthful energy, Coach Diego Giustozzi and his team are expected to deliver a positive performance at the regional arena, where Ho Van Yi's role continues to be a crucial foundation for the team's ambition to advance deep into the tournament.
