Nicky Butt expressed his support for Jose Mourinho's return to Manchester United, but acknowledged that obstacles from the upper management are the key factor.

In the context where the future of the coaching seat at Manchester United remains open, the statement by Manchester United legend Nicky Butt quickly attracted attention in England. This former midfielder unexpectedly voiced support for Jose Mourinho's return to Old Trafford, despite the conflicts that previously led to their unpleasant separation.

Butt emphasized that Mourinho remains a top-tier manager, capable of handling pressure at one of the world's biggest clubs. He helped Manchester United win the UEFA Europa League and EFL Cup during the 2016-2018 period. That achievement is the basis for Butt's belief in a reunion, though it remains merely a personal opinion.

“I want him to come back. He is a winner and can carry the team,” Butt affirmed. However, he also admitted that the biggest obstacle is not professional, but comes from the club's current management direction: “those in power will not allow it, because they want a manager who focuses solely on coaching rather than controlling transfers.”

In reality, the new operational structure under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS group is creating many changes. The manager's power tends to be reduced, which could make charismatic strategists like Mourinho difficult to fit in, even though he is currently leading Benfica.

In another development, Butt also praised James Garner – a player who grew up from Manchester United's academy and is performing impressively in Everton's colors.“He has played excellently this season. He has everything – passing, defending, tackling, and movement,” Butt commented.

He believes Garner “certainly deserves” to be in England's squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022, while also leaving open the possibility of this midfielder returning to Old Trafford: “I don't see any reason why he couldn't return to Manchester United.”
