Kylian Mbappe recounted a story that demonstrates Lionel Messi's superiority over both him and Neymar during their time playing together at PSG.
Kylian Mbappe did not hesitate to acknowledge the superior caliber of Lionel Messi compared to himself and Neymar, while sharing a memorable story from the period when all three played together at PSG. On the podcast The Bridge, alongside Aurelien Tchouameni and Achraf Hakimi, the French forward recalled his experience with Messi and called him "extraordinary" due to his talent and rare footballing ability.
Specifically, the Real Madrid forward revealed:“It's truly unbelievable, Messi is not like Neymar; he does everything perfectly. I'll tell you a story: when we practiced finishing in Paris, Neymar and I were usually the best performers, scoring about 6 or 7 goals out of 10 shots. But Messi took 9 finishing attempts and scored all 9 goals in the same manner, all placed precisely. At that moment, I just looked at the goalkeeper like 'you don't see that?' It was truly extraordinary.”
This story not only highlights Messi's incredible finishing ability but also reflects the exceptional influence of the Argentine superstar, even among players accustomed to competing at the highest level. Mbappe's sharing further reinforces the long-held view across generations that Messi's legacy is built not only on titles and statistics but also on the admiration of his fellow professionals.
Mbappe and Messi had two seasons together at PSG, from August 2021 to June 2023. During that period, they played 67 matches together, winning two Ligue 1 titles and one French Cup.
Messi contributed 14 assists for Mbappe, while the French forward also reciprocated with 20 goal-scoring passes for the player now wearing the jersey of Inter Miami.
Additionally, Neymar also demonstrated the caliber of a top star. The synergy between him and Messi, built from their Barcelona days, combined with Mbappe's speed and explosiveness, made PSG one of the most watchable teams in the world, with over 100 goals created across all competitions.
However, despite possessing an extremely impressive forward line, this trio still could not achieve the ultimate goal of winning the Champions League. Neymar's injuries at crucial moments, early defeats against Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, and the lack of balance in defensive play highlighted the challenges of building a team centered around three superstars of such caliber.
