Thailand strengthens naturalized players like Vietnam and Indonesia national teams.

The Thai Football Association is reaching out to a dual-nationality defender to reinforce the "War Elephants," after Thailand secured its spot in the Asian Cup 2027.

Accordingly, the Thai national team plans to negotiate with Erik Kahl, a 24-year-old left-back currently playing for AGF Aarhus in Denmark's top league, to persuade him to join the team during FIFA Days in September 2026.

Previously, Thai Football Association President Nualphan Lamsam had discussions with this dual-nationality player of Thai and Swedish descent.

However, Erik Kahl has not made an immediate decision and requires more time for consideration. One influencing factor is Thailand's qualification for the Asian Cup 2027 finals.

Regarding procedures, the paperwork has progressed significantly and will not encounter obstacles if the player agrees to join the Thai national team.

If everything proceeds smoothly, Erik Kahl could debut for Thailand in friendly matches during FIFA Days in September, or even earlier, in June 2026.

This year, the Thai national team still has many important tasks, including tournaments such as the ASEAN Cup, FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, and the King's Cup.

Not limited to Erik Kahl's case, President Nualphan Lamsam – Madam Pang also revealed a detailed plan for strengthening naturalized players.

"More dual-nationality players will be selected to enhance Thailand's strength for the Asian Cup 2027. While I cannot disclose anything yet, I am certain there will be a surprise. I want everyone to see how big that surprise will be, because we still have nearly 9 months to prepare."

Currently, the Thai Football Association is considering signing a long-term contract with English coach Anthony Hudson. Previously, this 45-year-old strategist was chosen to replace coach Masatada Ishii with a short-term contract and the task of guiding Thailand through the Asian Cup 2027 qualification.

Under Hudson's guidance, Thailand achieved a perfect record with three consecutive wins and accomplished the goal of participating in the Asian Cup 2027.
