Liverpool to sell 5 first-team stars in the Summer 2026 transfer window

According to multiple sources in England, Liverpool are reportedly set to put up to 5 first-team players on the transfer market in the upcoming summer window, notably including Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister.

The Merseyside club had already been preparing for the departure of their top star Mohamed Salah when the current season concludes. The Egyptian forward confirmed last month that this would be his final season wearing the "Red Brigade" jersey, ending a glorious chapter at Anfield.

However, a new report suggests Salah might not be the only major name leaving the team. Liverpool are experiencing a disappointing season in their quest to defend the Premier League title. They are even struggling in the race to secure a spot for the UEFA Champions League next season. In this context, the club's leadership is reportedly ready for a major squad "clear-out" in the summer.

According to The Sun, besides Gakpo and Mac Allister, names like Joe Gomez and Federico Chiesa will also be placed on the transfer list when the market opens. Additionally, Curtis Jones's future remains unclear, while Ibrahima Konaté has yet to renew his contract, with his current deal expiring in June.

Not only facing personnel changes on the pitch, Liverpool could also encounter upheaval at the executive level, as sporting director Richard Hughes is reportedly a target pursued by clubs in the Saudi Pro League. Including Salah's departure, the Anfield-based club could part with up to 7 first-team players in the upcoming transfer window.

Notably, the team under manager Arne Slot spent up to £450 million in last summer's transfer window, but the results have not matched expectations. Explaining the decline compared to his first season, the Dutch strategist stated in December: he believes that changing too many personnel requires time to build cohesion.

"Typically, when you bring in many new players and also have many departures, the team performs better after they have more time playing together. Having more shared training and match time helps improve the playing style. Last season was a clear example when the squad was largely kept intact from Jürgen Klopp's era.

"Especially in the first half of the season, we played very good football. History also shows that players who stay together longer have higher chances of winning titles. If you add reinforcements, the team can improve immediately. But if you replace many players, as we did, that requires time and usually improves after a certain period," Slot emphasized.
