Mikel Arteta asserts that Arsenal always supports players joining the national team, while dismissing suspicions of "holding back" players amid the context of many stars withdrawing due to injuries.
Coach Mikel Arteta states that Arsenal always provides maximum conditions for players to represent the national team, while refuting doubts surrounding the withdrawal of numerous stars from the recent international training camp.
In recent days, Arsenal has become the focus of attention as up to 10 players could not fulfill their international duties for various reasons. Names like Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Eberechi Eze were absent from England's friendly matches. Additionally, other key players such as Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba also withdrew from the national team due to physical condition issues.
This has raised many suspicions that Arsenal might have "held back" players in the context of the club competing on multiple fronts. However, Arteta quickly spoke up to deny this.
He emphasized that the relationship between Arsenal and national teams is always transparent and professional, especially with England coach Thomas Tuchel. According to Arteta, all decisions regarding players are based on clear medical assessments.
“We are always honest when discussing the condition of players. If they are fit, they will play for the national team. We fully support that,” Arteta affirmed.
The Spanish strategist also stressed that players being called up to the national team is a great pride for the club, and noted that the players themselves always desire to contribute for their country.
“They always want to play for the national team. We understand how important that is and always support it when possible,” he added.
Nevertheless, Arsenal is currently entering a crucial phase of the season as they continue to compete on multiple fronts, including the Premier League and FA Cup. Arteta admitted he must carefully consider to ensure the strongest lineup for each match.
Good news for Arsenal is that some key players may return soon. Noni Madueke is confirmed not to have a serious injury, while Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber also have the possibility to feature in the upcoming match.
