The latest global national championship rankings released by Opta highlight a notable advancement of V-League. Vietnam's top-tier league has now climbed to the 117th position worldwide, surpassing even the Chinese Super League.
Opta's ranking system is built on various criteria such as the performance of clubs in international competitions, the level of internal competitiveness, as well as overall regional and federation assessments. Therefore, the ranking not only reflects professional quality but also shows the influence of teams when stepping onto continental stages.
According to the latest update, V-League has risen one rank to stand at 117th globally. Within Asia, this league ranks 14th, while in Southeast Asia, V-League holds the second position, only behind Thai League 1. This is considered a positive signal, showing clear improvement in quality and competitiveness in recent seasons.

V-League surpasses the Chinese Super League, while Malaysia Super League ranks below J League 3
Notably, V-League not only surpasses China's national league (currently ranked 119th worldwide) but also leaves regional leagues such as Indonesia's Liga 1 (ranked 155th) and Malaysia Super League (ranked 173rd) far behind. This gap partly reflects the increasingly solid position of Vietnamese football in Southeast Asia.
The aforementioned success stems from the stability of Vietnamese clubs on the international stage. In recent years, representatives from V-League have not only improved their results but also demonstrated systematic investment and strong determination when participating in regional and continental tournaments.

V-League is currently ranked 117th worldwide
In the 2025/26 season, Hanoi Police FC reached the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup C2, while Nam Dinh FC advanced to the semi-finals of the Southeast Asian Cup C1. Previously, CAHN had reached the regional final and only lost to Buriram United in a penalty shootout. These results contribute to elevating the image of Vietnamese football on the regional map.
Additionally, the parity among teams is also an important advantage of V-League. Although a few top Chinese clubs might be slightly better, considering the overall level, Vietnam's league is rated higher for its competitiveness.
At the continental level, J1 League still holds the top position, despite facing significant pressure from the Saudi Pro League. Meanwhile, on the global scale, the Premier League continues to lead, followed by top European leagues such as La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1.
