Vietnam Futsal's Four-Star Victory

The Vietnam futsal team had a favorable start in the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship by defeating Myanmar with a score of 4-0, thanks to an explosive second half performance.

Myanmar started with the ball, but the Vietnam team, with a slightly higher level of skill, quickly dominated after the opening whistle. In the 12th minute, Thai Huy made an effort to dribble along the right flank before crossing inside for Gia Hung. In an open position, Gia Hung had enough time to adjust the ball and then curled it into Myanmar's net, putting the Vietnam team ahead 1-0.

Besides Gia Hung's goal, in the first half, Minh Quang, Thinh Phat, and Manh Dung created a series of dangerous attacking situations. Notably, Cong Dai had a one-on-one opportunity with goalkeeper Nyi Nyi Thant in the 13th minute, but no additional goals were scored.

In the second half, the Vietnam team continued to create a lively game flow, and goals quickly came for Coach Diego Giustozzi's squad. In the 21st minute, Da Hai and Minh Quang had an extremely well-coordinated combination, allowing Da Hai to finish from close range, doubling the lead.

Immediately after, the Vietnam futsal team continued to increase the pressure. In the 22nd minute, Ngoc Anh's long-range shot was pushed away by goalkeeper Nyi Nyi Thant, but Da Hai was present to follow up and shoot, raising the score to 3-0.

By the 28th minute, newcomer Thac Hieu had a solo run from midfield, bypassing a series of Myanmar players and the goalkeeper, before finishing to increase the score to 4-0.

Right after this goal, Myanmar decided to play power-play to find a consolation goal. Chau Doan Phat had an opportunity to raise the score to 5-0 in the 32nd minute, but his shot from their own half into the empty goal lacked accuracy. Meanwhile, the Myanmar team created some dangerous opportunities but could not successfully capitalize, ultimately accepting a 0-4 defeat.

In the second match, the Vietnam team will face Timor-Leste at 5:30 PM on April 7.

The 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship takes place from April 6 to 12 in Nonthaburi (Thailand). The Vietnam futsal team is in Group A along with Myanmar, Timor-Leste, and Thailand. Group B includes Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, and Brunei. The top two teams from each group will earn tickets to the semifinals.

To prepare for this tournament, the Vietnam futsal team assembled from March 16 in Ho Chi Minh City, before departing to Thailand for training from March 30. During this period, the team played two practice matches with top Thai futsal clubs Hong Yen Takam and Blackpearl, helping the coaching staff review the squad and refine their playing style.
