Vietnam's U17 team will have two friendly matches against PVF U17 and PVF Club prior to the 2026 Southeast Asian U17 Championship.
After a week of intensive training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, the Vietnam U17 national team is entering the final sprint to polish the last details before the 2026 Southeast Asian U17 Championship. This is considered a crucial preparatory step not only for the regional tournament but also for the long-term goal of qualifying for the 2026 AFC U17 Asian Cup.
During this period, under the guidance of coach Cristiano Roland, the young players have been honed in physical fitness, tactical skills, and team coordination. The two practice matches against PVF U17 and PVF Club provided significant professional value, allowing the coaching staff to gain a clearer view of each individual's performance as well as the overall team dynamics.
These trial matches play a vital role in adjusting tactics and selecting the optimal lineup. Through each match, the players not only accumulate more competitive experience but also demonstrate their determination to secure a spot in the official tournament roster. Their progress has been clearly observed in each training session and match.
According to the plan, Vietnam's U17 team will have a final rehearsal match against Hanoi U17 on April 8. This is seen as the last review before the head coach decides on the final 26-player list. Immediately afterward, on April 10, the entire team will depart for Indonesia to officially begin their journey in the tournament, which runs from April 11 to 23.
In the group stage, Vietnam U17 is placed in Group A alongside Indonesia, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste. This group is considered challenging, as Indonesia enjoys home advantage, while Malaysia has always been a competitive rival with a history of encounters with Vietnam's youth football.
According to the schedule, Vietnam U17 will open their campaign against Malaysia on April 13, followed by matches against Timor-Leste on April 16 and host Indonesia on April 19. With thorough preparation and high determination, coach Cristiano Roland and his team hope to achieve positive results, creating momentum for their goal of advancing to continental competitions.
Today, Vietnam U17 plays their first match against a team from Japan.
