Inter Milan giant Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed their interest in Manchester United centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund. It is reported that the 22-year-old Danish international has agreed to a move to Inter, but the Serie A club needs to agree with Manchester United on the transfer format and fees before it can be really dealt.
What can be confirmed is that Inter are considering bringing in Hojlund in this summer's transfer window as part of a plan to rebuild the squad. They finished runners-up in both Serie A and the Champions League this season, including a 5-0 thrashing of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, and the aging squad needs to be renewed.
On the other hand, after joining Manchester United from Atalanta for 72 million pounds, Hojlund scored 16 goals in the first season, but in the second season, he slammed into the "rookie wall", scoring only 10 goals in all competitions, especially in the Premier League, only 4 goals, and the overall performance was miserable. Therefore, Manchester United are willing to sell Hojlund and let Amorim bring in a new striker of their choice.
Between Hojlund and Zilkedze, the United boss and management have opted for the 23-year-old Dutchman, who has been underperforming at one point but has shown a tendency to adapt to the Premier League before his injury at the end of the season, with his technical skills outperforming rival Hojlund, and a drop back to the style of play that could help the likes of Cunha and Mbeumo as new scoring wingers.
Although Napoli and Juventus have also been rumored to be with Hojlund, Inter are the most serious buyers at the moment. Inter chief executive Marotta has confirmed that they have visited Hojlund and have the opportunity to negotiate a signing for the team's new manager, Romanian legend Zivo.
Asked if Hojlund was on Inter's target list, Marotta told TMW: "We've been working hard, especially for months to think about possible changes, and we know that the attacking aspects are the most watched. The names you mentioned, as well as others, could be put on a potential list to be the subject of investigations and negotiations."
Prior to joining Manchester United, Hojlund had just one season in Italy, scoring 10 goals in 34 appearances, including nine in 32 Serie A games. This has led Inter to believe that he may just not be used to the Premier League and that playing in Serie A is more than enough, and Meazza has seen a number of Red Devils veterans revitalise, with Mkhitaryan and Darmian currently in the squad.
Italy's "Roma Sport" reported that Hojlund knows that his future plans at Amorim have no place, and has accepted the reality of the end of the "devil's dream" and agreed to join Inter. Talks will now take place at club level, with no deal yet to be agreed, but both teams believe the final value could be between €40 million and €45 million.
Manchester United spent £64 million on Hojlund for a fixed transfer fee, plus an £8 million floating clause, which is equivalent to €80 million. So, it's now a half-price sell-off, and even then, the amount is beyond Inter's affordability, as the team is even considered bankrupt!
It is reported that Inter Milan want to rent and buy later, and once Hojlund's performance reaches the set target, a mandatory buyout will be required. However, Manchester United have not yet opened the door to loan and are insisting on a permanent transfer. According to the Daily Mail, the Nerazzurri could also agree to buy it outright if United agree to lower the price, and they have made further contact with the Red Devils about the possibility of a permanent transfer.
Inter striker Joaquin Correa has reached an agreement with Botafogo, veteran Marko Arnautovic will also be a free agent and Mehdi Taremi could be sold. Like Manchester United, Inter are desperate to change the structure of their forward line.
