Sinner has a "sleepless night" after the French Open defeat to defend his title in Halle next week

Sinner speaks to the media ahead of the 2025 Halle Open.

Even for someone as mentally resilient as Sinner, recovering from the disappointment of losing the French Open final will not be easy.

Sinner believes he has made good progress in the process of "forgetting the past and moving forward" after missing three match points to Alcaraz in the final of the French Grand Slam Grand Slam. Speaking at his pre-tournament press conference at the Harley Terra Wortmann Open, he acknowledged that the pain of the defeat did affect him, but said he had focused on defending his title at the ATP 500 event on grass.

When asked by the media if he was still "reminiscing" about the three match points he missed in the French Open final over the past week, Sinner replied in German:

"I often think. This happens from time to time. I don't know what the future holds. I don't think it's the most important thing, but I'm still trying to forget the negative part and focus on what I can do at Harley. ”

He also stated:

Going to the next event is positive because every game is a new start and I have to be mentally prepared and give it my all on the pitch. So it's great to be in Halle. I did have a few sleepless nights, though, but I feel like it's getting better every day. My family and friends support me and that's the most important thing for me. Tennis is important in my life, but family and friends are even more important. Still, I think about that game a lot.

Sinner's quick way out of the Paris defeat wasn't complicated. The 23-year-old is simply back home in Italy to spend time with those who know him best.

He explains:

I was very relaxed with my family, we barbecued meat together and played table tennis with friends...... It's all very common, nothing special. When things are messy, I like to go home. I feel at ease at home and around my friends. They know what kind of person I am, they know what I used to be, they know me very well. ”

I didn't do much deliberately, I was more relaxed, and I've been here since yesterday. The most important thing is to put 100% of your energy into this event. The first grass game was difficult, but I'm happy to be here.

In the coming weeks, Sinner hopes to continue the progress he made in grass technology in 2024. This goal will start in Harley. He competed here for the first time as world No. 1 last year and lifted his first grass court title. This year, he will face a qualifier in the first round.

Sinner arrived at the Players' Hotel in Halle on Friday morning. Later that day, he began to dive into pre-race training.

He said:

The first training session was not bad. I haven't played since Paris, so the overall feeling on the pitch wasn't perfect, but I think it was better today. I think a good grass player needs to be able to move well. Due to the nature of the grass court, the bounce of the ball can be a little irregular, and you must be smart to receive the serve. But overall, this is the venue where I made significant progress last year and we'll see how it goes this year.

Sinner is currently one of the most talked-about players in the ATP. Every tournament he plays in is linked to his future status in tennis. The grass court match started, and his every move attracted the attention of countless fans.

Keep an eye on grass, keep an eye on Harley, keep an eye on Sinner......
