The South Korean women's volleyball team is in a highly passive situation, forced to restart the entire head coach search process after the appointment decision for Mr. Cha Sang Hyun was canceled due to incomplete legal procedures.
Not long before, the Korean Volleyball Association (KVA) officially announced Mr. Cha Sang Hyun as the person who would take over the "hot seat" of the national women's team.
However, procedural errors quickly rendered this decision invalid. According to current regulations in South Korea, selecting a national team head coach requires approval from at least 7 members of the expert committee.

The South Korean women's volleyball team is in a highly passive situation, forced to restart the entire head coach search process.
Yet, due to a committee member unexpectedly resigning before the vote, the voting process recorded agreement from only 6 people, insufficient to legitimize the decision.
Given this situation, KVA has no choice but to conduct the entire selection process anew. A new public application round will soon be launched, but notably, the application period will last only two weeks.
This is a rather tight timeframe to ensure preparation progress for upcoming international duties. Nevertheless, Mr. Cha Sang-hyun is still permitted to resubmit his application and continue competing for the head coach position.
This unforeseen incident has significantly impacted the preparation plans of the South Korean women's team for the 2026 season – a year predicted to be extremely busy with a series of important tournaments. The Korean team will participate in the AVC Cup in June, the East Asian Championship in July, the Asian Championship in August, and notably the ASIAD in September – an arena identified as a key target.
On the regional level, the South Korean women's team is still regarded as a formidable opponent for the Vietnamese team. At the 2026 AVC Cup, where Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team aim for a fourth consecutive championship, the presence of South Korea promises to pose a major challenge.
In the context where the rival is striving to rebuild and eager to reaffirm its status, the Vietnamese team will undoubtedly need thorough preparation if it wishes to continue maintaining dominance in this arena.
