Tran Thi Thanh Thuy outperforms Thai star, Gunma Green Wings secure major victory in Japanese women's volleyball league

In a match where Tran Thi Thanh Thuy outperformed Thai star Ajcharaporn Kongyot, Gunma Green Wings convincingly won 3-0 against Aranmare Yamagata, thereby officially advancing to Stage 2 of the Japanese Women's National Volleyball Championship 2025-2026.

Tran Thi Thanh Thuy scored nearly three times the points of the Thai national team captain

Right from the first set, Gunma Green Wings started enthusiastically with a dominant performance. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Olivia Rozanski continuously scored points with powerful attacks, helping the home team quickly lead 5-2. Despite Aranmare Yamagata's efforts to catch up at the end of the set, Gunma maintained control to close the set with a 25-20 victory.

In the second set, the match became more balanced in the early phase. However, stability in their offensive play allowed Gunma to gradually build a lead. Rozanski continued to be the main scoring spearhead, while Thanh Thuy shone at crucial moments, particularly the decisive point that helped the home team win 25-22, raising the score to 2-0.

Meanwhile, Ajcharaporn scored only 5 points

The third set witnessed a similar scenario as Gunma Green Wings still controlled the match well. Although Aranmare Yamagata narrowed the gap to just 2 points at the late stage, Thanh Thuy and her teammates remained calm, playing solidly to finish the set 25-22.

Overall, Gunma Green Wings won 3-0 (25-20; 25-22; 25-22). Tran Thi Thanh Thuy personally scored 13 points (10 attack points, 2 block points, 1 serve point, efficiency 48%), while Olivia Rozanski was the standout player with 26 points. With this result, Thanh Thuy and her teammates are guaranteed to advance with a position in the top 8 as the league has only three rounds remaining.

On the other side of the net, the two Thai national players performed differently. Wimonrat Thanapan played a solid role with 11 points, but captain Ajcharaporn Kongyot disappointed by scoring only 5 points with low efficiency. The underperformance of Ajcharaporn was one of the reasons why Aranmare Yamagata could not create an upset against a superior-performing Gunma.
