The inclusion of this team is expected to raise the competitive standard of the VTV9-Binh Dien Cup this year.
Japanese Women's Volleyball Club - Gunma Green Wings will participate in the international women's volleyball tournament VTV9-Binh Dien 2026 held in May in Tay Ninh.
This year's VTV9-Binh Dien Cup features 8 teams, including the host VTV Binh Dien Long An, 3 domestic teams, and 4 international invitees. Gunma Green Wings is the first foreign club confirmed to join the tournament, and is highly likely to be the top contender for the championship.
Gunma Green Wings is the club where Tran Thi Thanh Thuy currently plays. With a strong restructuring—bringing in three high-quality foreign players: Thanh Thuy, Olivia Rozanski, and Nasya Dimitrova—Gunma has completely transformed, currently ranking 7th and securely qualifying for the playoffs in the Japanese National League 2025-2026.
Gunma's domestic lineup, including players like Minami Takaso, Momoko Niida, and Hinano Michishita, also promises to make the team a formidable force in the upcoming VTV9-Binh Dien Cup.
In the most recent edition held in 2024, another Japanese club—PFU BlueCats—also participated and immediately claimed the championship. In the final match, Thanh Thuy's former team demonstrated its strength, defeating LPB Ninh Binh to take the top podium spot.
However, the reigning champion will not participate this year, meaning the championship trophy will undoubtedly find a new owner.
For the host team VTV Binh Dien Long An, preparations are actively underway. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa and her players will fully assemble after completing Round 1 of the 2026 National Club Championship in Dong Anh (Hanoi). The team's goal is nothing other than improving their performance, especially given they have not won the title since their last victory in 2010.
In the tournament two years ago, Thanh Thuy returned to play for VTV Binh Dien Long An after finishing her season in Japan. The national champion at that time only finished in 4th place overall, which further motivates Coach Ngoc Hoa and her team to aim for a more impressive performance on their home court in Tay Ninh this year.
